Weekend Crochet // Preparing for Autumn

The weather in London this weekend was a real mix bag. Saturday was super hot - highs of 30C! I love the weather being hot but it does make me very tired and sluggish. Ice lollies were my friend!
Sunday rolled around with heavy downpours which resulted in getting soaked while running from the car to Sainsbury's and then not moving from the sofa for the rest of the day, aside from making tea and eating cake :)

Sofa time meant that I could get on with some crochet and the start of two new projects. I love to be indoors when its pouring outside and it definitely makes me think of autumn. I find it easier to crochet in autumn/winter; there are so many projects - scarves, hats, mittens, blankets and of course, Christmas Crochet. Despite saying I wasn't going to make a blanket for a while, I recently purchased a new duvet cover whilst on a trip to Ikea last week so naturally I want to make a blanket that will co-ordinate with this whilst being autumnal at the same time. A quick look on Wool Warehouse and I found near-matching colours to my Malin Rund duvet. I struggled with deciding on a pattern however; I knew I wanted to do something with squares, fairly simple so I could travel with a ball of yarn and make as I went along. I'll go into more detail about the ideas I had in another post coming soon but I have decided on the willow block pattern which can be found in the book, 200 Crochet Blocks by Jan Eaton . I thought this would be a difficult pattern to follow but it was fairly easy, it just requires concentration!

This weekend I also picked up the new issue of Simply Crochet mainly because the top on the front cover looks lovely and a possible future make. There was a link to a bag pattern which caught my eye; a crochet satchel within the first few pages which got me thinking about making myself a little bag so I spent most of yesterday afternoon writing my own pattern for it, something I've wanted to do for a while. Of course its all in the early stages and probably won't be the best thing I've made but its all about trial and error! I'll keep you posted on my progress with that but for now heres the back part, which doesn't really give much away but I love the colour (Stylecraft Special DK in Teal).

And of course I had my little fury companion for company...
