Crochet Newborn Cardigan

With the arrival of a work colleague's baby imminent I decided to make a cute little cardigan to give as a present. After scouring the patterns on Deramores I settled upon the Stylecraft Wondersoft pattern 8570 which also includes patterns for a hat, blanket and cushion cover.
The cardigan looked a fairly simple pattern and the yarn is supersoft and practical as it can be machine washed.

They are expecting a girl so I went for a pale yellow to steer away from the usual pink shades just in case they have been inundated with the colour and give it a cheery summer feel. The pattern was so easy to follow and really like the 'open' sort of stitch that makes more lightweight for this time of year. The newborn size made it super quick to whip up and if I'd worked on it solidly I probably could have finished it in the best part of a day (or two). The size may not be the most practical as the baby will obviously grow out of it very quickly but at least she can wear it when she is born!

I added a bobble shell edging (from Attic24 - link here) in an off white colour and teamed this with some pearlescent buttons I had in my stash. I'm so happy with the outcome and will definitely be making some more.
